Last time I talked about how I have discovered Virtual Box (an open source project) that can give a better emulation platform than the standard Windows 7 XP mode, but the down side to the standard Virtual Box solution is that you still need to have a separate XP license in order to go that route.  I have been thinking if we can somehow utilize the free Windows XP license that comes with Windows 7 Professional and Ultimate, that would be the best solution.  I thought about converting the virtual hard drive from the XP mode (.vhd) to something readable by Virtual Box (.vdi), but I soon found out there would be issues with validation since the two emulators are just too different  and would flag the Windows Genuine Advantage even if the OS was already installed and validated.  However, I discovered something else during my search that branched off from the Virtual Box development (benefit of an open source project that is) that is aiming to take advantage of the XP mode free license – VMLite.

A while ago I read this topic about Customizing Windows 7 logon screen in figure.fm by member Neko w Scythe, I wasn’t ready to migrate to Windows 7 at the time since I wanted to do a full backup on my system, setting up a Windows Home Server and make sure I have a backup plan before migrating… so I had it in my head that I would do that over the 2 weeks vacation I planned to take over Christmas and New Year.

The result of migrating to Windows 7 has been astounding so far, I love every bit of it.  So, it was time to revisit the topic of customizing my own Windows 7 logon screen since I have pretty much decided to stay on Windows 7 for good.  And following the instruction Neko w Scythe, and combining it with a picture of my latest Dollfie Dream Daughters Glorious Gathering Group photo, I have updated my logon screen to this~

I actually hardly ever turn my computer off, but now I got a good reason to want to reboot it once in a while lol…
