Last time I talked about how I have discovered Virtual Box (an open source project) that can give a better emulation platform than the standard Windows 7 XP mode, but the down side to the standard Virtual Box solution is that you still need to have a separate XP license in order to go that route.  I have been thinking if we can somehow utilize the free Windows XP license that comes with Windows 7 Professional and Ultimate, that would be the best solution.  I thought about converting the virtual hard drive from the XP mode (.vhd) to something readable by Virtual Box (.vdi), but I soon found out there would be issues with validation since the two emulators are just too different  and would flag the Windows Genuine Advantage even if the OS was already installed and validated.  However, I discovered something else during my search that branched off from the Virtual Box development (benefit of an open source project that is) that is aiming to take advantage of the XP mode free license – VMLite.

A week has passed since my anniversary post and that means it’s time to reveal the figure giveaway contest result!  I have noticed a handful of regular visitors have managed to read to the end of the post and found this giveaway contest!  For those of you who are unaware of this figure giveaway contest, that was because I did not intend on publicizing it and that’s probably how I will conduct future giveaway contest as well.  Now let’s recap on the contest rules:

Under the topic Dollfie Dream Completion Project arrival and other loots, there were three dollfie dream, namely Asuka, Feena and Saber that I acquired through Yahoo Japan Auction, your task here is to guess how much US dollars I have spent to acquire them including auction deputy fee and whatever fee that might have been charged!  Easily right haha… there are hints of how much I have spent on them scattered throughout my blog and in my flickr account. You may not give your answer in Japanese Yen, or it would be wayyyy too easy, the answer must be in 2 decimal places, for example 1000.00 would be your answer if your guess is 1000 US dollars~

And here is the other criteria, you must be a figure.fm member, and you must identify yourself here with your figure.fm username and have posting history there ; because that’s the only way for me to identify you to be an unique individual, and not the same user under the disguise of several usernames.  You have 2 chances to guess the actual dollar amount is, so give me two answers!  The closest answer will be declared as winner and will receive this Max Factory 1/8 Mikuru Adult version!  In the case of multiple answers being correct or closest to the correct answer, the earlier respond will be declared as winner.

I would like to dedicate this post today to send off my oldest wide screen monitor in my family, my Dell 23″ W2306C, it has served my computing need for the past several years.  As one of the earliest generation of wide screen LCD monitor X TV combo, it was not one of the best equipped compare to today’s standard, however, it has served me day and night for the past 3 years or so without fail, it had a weird 1366 X 768 resolution which was terribly inadequate for my computing need..

It was big, it was bulky, but it has a ton of input options, like DVI, VGA, 2 Components, S-Video and 1 composite.  I got it before I really understood all the high definition slangs, at first I was disappointed in the display quality thinking it didn’t look any different than my other LCD, how is this “high definition”??  It was until later did I find out that I had no “high definition” video source to plug into it …. Like a blink of an eye really, one whole year has gone by and I have finally achieved one of the major milestone of any bloggers – hitting the first anniversary!  I must thank you for all of your support, visits, clicks, comments and encouragement!  Looking back when I first started blogging, my original goal was to introduce myself to the worldwide of Otaku that I – Wolfheinich exists here!  I think I have mentioned in the past, I was very much like a closet otaku, I have little real life friends that share my interest, I have no way to share my joy of unpacking my new figures or do I have anyone to converse with how cute this 2D girl is or what not.  What I desire most, is to seek out to like minded otaku who can share my interest, making new friends.

Stumbling onto Dannychoo.com was a major turning point for me, I never knew there is an online community like that before!  After spending a few days on Danny’s site, I decided I too want to become a blogger so I can really introduce myself to the community.  After one whole year, I am confident to say that I have achieved way more than what I had in mind.  I have made a bunch of new friends, gotten into Dollfie Dream (which is like the greatest thing since sliced bread), and even traveled to Japan to see Odaiba Gundam, Kamen Rider Decade and Evangelion 2.0 movie with fellow Dannychoo member Fumoffu.

Let’s take a quick look at the transformation that Wolfheinrich’s World has gone thru in the past year!  I really had no idea what to blog about at the beginning, so I started off with a my room post soon after I began! (continue reading…)

So today, I would like to set a little time aside to talk about regional protection of eroge game in general.  Before Windows XP came along, the only way to “properly” run Japanese eroge games was to purchase a separate copy of Windows 95 or Windows 98 and install them into a separate partition in the main hard disk using an off the shelf MBR overlay software such as System Commander… that was how I used to run Windows based eroge game back in the early 90s.  Windows XP changed all that, with the ability to install East Asian language pack and applocale basically took care of all the language compatibility issue for the past decade or so… However, the situation is starting to change again … quite possibly after a public outrage of having an eroge game called “Rapelay” released by Illusion being offered for sale in Amazon UK in early 2009, a string of Eroge game publishing companies have begun tightening the sale of their software outside of Japan, some companies have decided to ban all ip addresses except for those in Japan, some companies have implemented tough regional protection scheme, company such as Triangle.

For the past week or so, I have been spending the majority of my time catching up on the White Album anime.  For those of you who are familiar with my habit, you are probably aware of what I am doing here.  My quest to understand the storyline for 森川 由綺 Morikawa Yuki and 緒方 理奈 Ogata Rina after their Dollfie Dream announcement.  Up to about episode 3-4, I am already completely captivated by the performance of Ogata Rina, whom I consider as one of the most awesome and attractive characters in my recent memory!  Needless to say, my 11th Dollfie Dream Daughter has already been decided, and it’s none other than Dollfie Dream Rina!  I am putting my name in the super early pre-order as soon as it’s up, despite the fact that I won’t see how she turns out!  You may also find the Dollfie Dream Rina banner in the side bar of my blog since a few days ago

Why am I making such an effort for this new girl Ogata Rina?  It’s simple, she is just that awesome!  “Most” anime in the past few seasons put too much emphasis on fan service and over emphasize on the “moe” factor and it’s getting very annoying for me to have to watch anime that lack a proper story, characters lack a proper personality and “progression”.  It’s very refreshing to see a buckle in this “moe” trend and see a character that literally captivated my heart from the beginning and continued to impress me every time she graced the screen (She is voiced by Nana Mizuki, I am sure that helped kicked it up a few notches there).  I think I might devote a topic to talk about her later.  In my personal opinion, Ogata Rina is beautiful, elegant, intelligent, talented and have more balls than all the men combined in the show! How should I put this, while it wasn’t totally unexpected, I have just completed the preliminary adoption paperwork for Dollfie Dream Airi.  While I have make it no secret in the past that I have always adored Queen’s Blade girl Airi and have been waiting for a chance to adopt her, I just didn’t expect the chance to present itself as quickly as it did.  I have briefly commented on my desire to adopt Airi if the opportunity present itself in this comment a few days ago if the fee was to dip below 70k yen mark.  It was almost like someone heard what I was saying and sure enough, within hours, an auction with a starting price of 63k yen popped up, not only that, two separate auctions for Airi’s maid outfit and her weapon were also available (I haven’t seen those within the past month or so), though with considerably more intense competitions than I would like.  As a man of my word, as I have always been, I have my sight set on Airi and decided to go for that auction despite the possible bidding war.

Weather has turned pretty cool in the past couple of days here in the Windy City, so it’s time to sleep in and spend some more quality time with my daughters!  Another large shipment of Dollfie Clothes arrived on Saturday morning…. and it was decision time… with the growing collection of new clothes arriving, it was getting extremely difficult to resist the prospect of taking new photos with my daughters with some of the new clothes….. and I eventually caved in.  While I still wanted to wait until the Dollfie Dream Theater to catch up on the storyline before unveiling the majority of the new clothes, let’s take a small peek for now!  Experimenting with some new settings with the camera, seems like the result is pretty decent.
