I am still in the middle of recovering of that massive photo shoot for Dollfie Dream Erika’s Arrival Party, “The August Four”, but since some loots I have previously ordered had arrived, I figure I should do myself a favor and get this loot post out of the way first and avoid getting too many things piled up on me.

The Arrival of Sony HD Handycam

Shortly after I shot the video tour of my room submission for Danny’s upcoming TV show Culture Japan. I came to realize the lack of auto-focus feature on the Nikon D5000 is seriously annoying when I try to shoot anything with variable focal lengths (like a video tour of my room), looking at the wallscrolls and dakimakura on one end of the room… and trying to zoom in my figure collection.  After some serious consideration, I have finally decided to get myself a Sony Handycam, something I have been considering for some time (little did I know I ended up ordering on the 25th Anniversary of Sony Handycam!).  I logged on to my SonyRewards website and clicked Redeem ….. 50k Sony Reward Points for the Sony HDR-CX150 16GB High Definition Handycam Camcorder, one of the entry level HD Camcorders.  The folks at Sony Rewards did an amazing job in getting this new toy out to me in 2 days!  And here I have my daughters introducing my new video gear!

Dollfie Dream Family Photo + DD Gathering Update + OTACOOL

I originally planned to hold on to this group photo session before the Dollfie Dream Theater storyline has a chance to catch up and introduce the new character as a surprise element, but Volks USA has informed me yesterday that I have just hit the “surprise element” deadline >.>;;;  Anyway, the long and short of it is that I have picked up a 2nd Sasara back in Hometown Nagoya 4 After Event party… but why should I do that?  Well, I originally did that because I have no spare parts for DDDy body, so I thought it wouldn’t be a bad idea to pick up a 2nd DDDy body… of course DD Gathering released DDDy body as normal item, so that blew my plan out of the water.  But I kept my silence and was hoping to introduce Sasara in the Dollfie Dream Theater as a surprise character, however, Volks USA announced yesterday that they have begun sending Sasara to USA lottery winners >.>; exactly a month earlier than what they had promised.. so my so called surprised plan is not going to work anymore >.>;  So, there isn’t any reason for me to hold on to this group photo anymore.

I was hoping to be able to pick up Natsuki and use this photo to celebrate the arrival of 10th daughter, but most of you already knew that didn’t work out too well since DD Gathering open web order is ruthless to anyone outside of Japan.

I included the “original” Asuka oneesan in this photo because it fit the screen better this way~  It took me quite a bit of time to balance every daughters and have them sit where I want them to be @.@;

Dollfie Dream Airi ~ Infernal Tempter ~ Photo Shoot

It’s been a few days since Airi arrived at my residence, and I have to admit that I have grown to like her more and more as each day gone by.  So it’s natural that I put together a photo shoot for her with a proper background~ I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I do :)

The first order of business, is to recreate the pose I deemed the sexiest Airi PVC figure to-date.

Nikon D5k + Camera Control Pro and Hikari Photo Studio Upgrade

It’s been a little over a month since I have made the jump to the rank of entry level DSLR with the recent purchase of Nikon D5000, and I have to say I am very pleased with the result I have been able to achieve with the Nikon D5000 so far.  Some of the photos I have taken with my dollfie daughters outdoor were quite a bit better than what I was able to achieve with my old Sony DSC-F707.  However, indoor photo has remained to be a challenge up to this point.  With the weather turning cold, it has become increasing unlikely that I can take my dollfie daughters outside again this year.  So it was time to finally invest in a continuous light umbrella set.

I didn’t want to spend a lot of money so I was definitely looking for some sort of a bargain so I ended up picking Steve Kaeser  ProStudio Light Kit 600 watt from Amazon.com.  The Light Kit came with everything for me to get started:

  • High output  “COOL-FLO” fluorescent bulbs equivalent to 300 watts incandescent each, total 600 watts
  • Pro umbrella holders with umbrella mounts, 12′ Power Cord and On/Off Switch.
  • SK306 light stands extends 6 1/2 feet, made from aluminum alloy with black matte finish.
  • Pro 32″ Pro umbrella white/black, softens and diffuses the light.

The kit actually arrived several days ago but one of the daylight bulb was dead on arrival, I contacted the shop Cowboy Studio and asked for a replacement bulb, they sent one to me without asking a second question, good service.  And here we have a couple of photos with different light setup and white balances:

Dollfie Dream Asuka, Escalayer and Rin X Panchira

Weather has turned pretty cool in the past couple of days here in the Windy City, so it’s time to sleep in and spend some more quality time with my daughters!  Another large shipment of Dollfie Clothes arrived on Saturday morning…. and it was decision time… with the growing collection of new clothes arriving, it was getting extremely difficult to resist the prospect of taking new photos with my daughters with some of the new clothes….. and I eventually caved in.  While I still wanted to wait until the Dollfie Dream Theater to catch up on the storyline before unveiling the majority of the new clothes, let’s take a small peek for now!  Experimenting with some new settings with the camera, seems like the result is pretty decent.

Dollfie Dream Rin Dollfie Dream Asuka Labor Day Weekend Shoot out

Well, I guess luck is on my side after all.  We have a decent weather here in the Midwest and it’s only partly cloudy so the Sun was out most of the day.  So I got to live up to my promise and took my girls out for another photo shoot back at the wonderful flower bed.  I am so happy that I am no longer limited by the memory of the camera, I shot most RAW + JPG today and I got to say it’s a breath of fresh air to be able to do that without any worries!  This is the first time I shot with the RAW format and I got to say, it’s just amazing!  All the exposure and color temperature information are recorded and I can tweak it very easily with the ViewNX software that came with my camera.  A less than perfect shot due to cloud shading is easily fixed with the ViewNX software!  I took a little over 200 shots today but a lot of them were test shots with varying parameters and angle, I think about 10% of them came out just the way I wanted it.  So, without further ado, let me share some of this new set of photos with you, hopefully you would enjoy looking at them as much as I enjoyed taking them!

First, let me introduce my new model for the day!  My fifth daughter Rin Tohsaka!

E2046 Gathering Saber Lily

It’s been a long time since I have taken photos of my Gathering collection, perhaps I am just lazy taking them out from my dust free display.  Anyway, with the new camera and everything, I have got to take this chance to do more testing on the camera and get myself familiar with it as soon as possible.  Saber Lily arrived at a perfect time since I haven’t found a place to store her yet XD.

As usual with the Gathering series, you can expect high level of details and finishes, let just say their finishes is on par if not better than some of the leading PVC manufacturers.  I have always been a fan of the painted resin figures because of their wider selection.  And with their choice station, customer like me has some input as to what they want to work on next!  I am putting my chips in a Gathering release of 1/4 Kos-mos version 4 from C3 X Hobby 2009.  There is no a chance that I will ever have enough skills to build that kit myself, so I am waiting for a Gathering release for sure.  I have been keeping the resolution the same as 4288 X 2828 on most of these shots, clicking on it should bring up the full size image from my flickr account.

Dollfie Dream Asuka and Nikon D5000 Test Drive

Well I said something along the line of taking some Dollfie out for a photoshoot if the weather was nice, the weather wasn’t exactly perfect, was mostly cloudy but I got to catch every chance I can get to take as many photos outside as possible.  The weather is starting to change and I have already noticed some summer flowers had already died out >.>;

While I haven’t really had that much time to practice the use of my new DSLR, I have got to do what I can manage for now.   But this time is a bit different, I wanted to focus on Asuka so I only took one Dollfie Dream out with me today.  So, once again, I have returned to the flower bed almost a month later, only this time it wasn’t as easy to put Asuka on top of the manhole cover as it was a month ago (plus there were other people in the office building so I didn’t want to spend too much time there).  I ended up only taking a few shots and moved on to my next spots >.>;

A few of the photos turned out ok,  I am quite happy with the resolution this new camera can deliver.  I can see very coarse pixels when I zoom in with my old setup but the new camera changed everything!  I still have yet to understand all the bells and whistles of the D5000 though, but so far I am more than happy with my purchase!  One of the advantage of the new camera is the increased resolution, I kept everything at 4288X2848, click on it and it should bring up the original from my flickr account.

Early September loots – DSLR, M.O.E. Fate, Asuka and Saber Lily

Several of my pre-order I placed over the past couple of months have finally arrived, among those are the Volks Model of Entertainment (M.O.E) 1/7 Fate T. Harlaown , Kotobukiya French Maid Asuka, E2046 Gathering Saber Lily Prepainted, and last but certainly not least is my newly acquired Nikon D5000 with AF-S Nikkor 18-105mm lens!

So far I am very happy with the D5000, it’s got the picture clarity that I have been longing for and while it is more complicated than my previous Sony Cybershot DSC-F707, I am starting to get the hang of it!  Since I am more or less a beginner, please pardon me if I come with a less than perfect focus shot!
