Archive for March, 2009

I have been making great progress for the past few days, the new Billy, new Expedite, and right in the middle of all that, a new idea came to me on how to improve my dust shield.  Dust is the one of the greatest enemies of collectors in general, whether it is China dishes, or Japanese Anime Figurines; it doesn’t matter, dust is still the one of the greatest threat to all of us.

I have discussed how I use 3M film to protect my figurine collection from dust, but there was always a big flaw in my original plan.  The fact that I leave the bottom edge open for easy access has led to some figurines being covered in dust due to air draft from some of my computers.  As anyone who has done failure mode analysis would tell you, prevention is always weighted more importantly than detection.  Cleaning the dust after you see them is in no way as effective as preventing the dust from accumulating in the first place.  It’s also my believe that dust get attracted to object because of the charged ion in the air within indoor environment.  Conventionally, you would use a brush to brush off the dust, but that alone could generate static charge on the surface that ended up attracting the dust again.  Have you ever gotten the feeling why you can’t quite brush the dust off?

The recent acquisition and  upcoming preorder has finally forced me to think about manufacturing more space for my figurines.  Luckily, the 5 drawers chest has nearly identical width to a “Billy”.  Why didn’t I think about this before?!! Just stack a half height Billy on top of my 5 drawers!  Went to Ikea today and spent some money on a half height Billy and an 2X2 Expedite to fit inside my in wall closet, dioder strip (and I found out they no longer keep the Dioder out now, you have to ask for help and pick it up at the customer pick up after you pay for it).  And a couple wall mount shelves to help free up space on the ground.

Here is what I have now.

Oh look, I manufactured space!

Oh look, I manufactured space!

Ah, it's just a half height Billy on top of the 5 drawers chest >.>

Ah, it's just a half height Billy on top of the 5 drawers chest >.>

And the previously hidden Iori popped up!

And the previously hidden Iori popped up!

Now the biggest question is who is going to occupy this space that I will be facing every night when I go to sleep!  Should Iori keep her place?  Or should she be replaced by a Feena Dakimakura @.@  Hard decision to make!

The final shipment of the March Madness has finally arrived, I expect April to be much quieter, may be 1 or 2 shipment at most.  2 Boxes arrived at home awaiting inspection.  The first box comes from ebay seller tktradeltd.

My room 20090326

Taking this chance to take a few photos around my room.  Recycled some old photos from the original shoot out.

Next up for the photo session treatment is my newly acquired gathering kit from E2046.com, Subaru from the eroge game Choko Sennin Haruka.

dsc00461

Choko Sennin Haruka is a heroine, insult, ninja, training + ADV eroge game release by Alicesoft back in Feburary 2008.  Previously released figure related to this series includes Takamori Haruka from Alter and the yet to be released Shihoudo Narika also from Alter.  Subaru is considered as the third and non-cannon heroine as she only joins you mid-way through the game and did not have her own cho-henshin costume.  Despite the fact that Alicesoft did not consider her as main heroine, she is actually rather popular among the fans; probably due to her mature body build and her beautiful long black hair + ponytail.  In this write up, I am going to attempt to give a summary of the game story as I would focus Subaru’s story as she joins the team as I don’t think I can talk about Subaru without talking about Haruka and Narika.  I would finish Narika and Haruka’s stories in future write ups, otherwise, it would be too long.

Photo session

I would say the paint job and shadow are done very well, the skin tone may be a little pale in the face for my taste. With an interchangeable arm, magnetically attached clothing and the gold trim around her waist belt, this gathering kit is full of gadgets.  The only catch about this kit is the artificial right arm seems to have a very tight of a fit against her body to be assembled right out of the box (and I ended up shaving some resin off her arm to force it in).  As a result, it’s nearly impossible to cast off her lower half body.

This is a first mega post for me!  I ended up putting in a lot of details on the background story and well I did end up playing the game over just to be sure I don’t make any false assumption.  As a result, I ended up finding stuff that I missed during my first play through.  In the end, I feel it’s still a benefit for me.  As usual, I would like to seek some feedback on a feature like this, photo session + background story.  Is it too much details or just about right?  Next write up would most likely be Haruka and I am saving Narika for last since her new figure would come out in July.

For the past few days I have been replaying Beat Blade Haruka (or Choko Sennin Haruka) for Subaru’s background story to go with her photos shoot.  During the process I think I realized I have always had a soft spot for tsundere (think Asuka Langley Soryu from Evangelion).  I never really knew why I bought so many of her figures, I always though it was the long hair, but there must be more to it.  Then I realized it has got to be the tsundere effect (I only learned about this term recently).  And a few days ago, Alter open this figure for reservation.

phpV3zkOX

I guess playing through Beat Blade Haruka again has two meanings now, Narika and Subaru.  One thing I can say for sure, Narika is definitely a pink+twintails+tsundere (that’s like a trifecta of win), I am going to cover her background along with Subaru.  And if tsundere turns you on, this is the figure for you.  Reservation is open at Hobby Search and probably your favorite online store.

I have fairly good confidence that Alter can deliver, judging how their version of Haruka easily looks 10X better than the Kotobukiya version.  My only question is why do they skip the normal henshin and go straight to cho henshin?  And the bigger question is, where is my Haruka cho henshin???
I am adding her to my must buy list for 2009, see the rest of them here.

Getting an oppai mouse pad seems to be the *in* thing to do recently and I have acquired one as well.  However, once I started using it, I am running into some difficult to adapt to the oppai region.  So here is the new mouse pad I acquired from Hobby Search.

As I am speed playing through Choko Sennin Haruka to refresh my memory of the game and heroines’ background story, I am finding the oppai region of the mouse pad is actually pinching my wrist.

Feeling the pinch, I moved my hand to one side.

Kamen Rider Decade PV

I have been a fan of the Kamen Rider series ever since I was a teenager, I remember I saw V3 on TV when I was really young, I wasn’t really sure what it was, and I was also too young to remember anything out of it.  Then in the early 90s, one of the TV stations in Hong Kong decided to bring Kamen Rider Black to prime time television, it was a huge deal for me, a tokusatsu shows finally, not only that, but in prime time TV??.  Finally I get to see the a real Kamen Rider in action instead of just reading about it on comic weekly magazine.  And Kamen Rider Black did not disappoint!  In fact it was so popular they made Kamen Rider Black RX after it.

Fast forward 19 years, we are on the tenth rider of Heisei era, Kamen Rider Decade.   The new story revolves around the nine previous universes of the Heisei Kamen Riders merging into one, something that would destroy all the worlds. To prevent this, Tsukasa Kadoya transforms into Kamen Rider Decade to protect his own dimension by defeating the Kamen Riders of the other dimensions.

php6kU8Dw

My impression of Decade so far has been very good, two episodes per world so far don’t leave much time for character development but every episode is climax scene!  My only complain if that even count is that the acting of Masahiro Inoue as Tsukasa Kadoya doesn’t seem natural enough for me.

The official promotional video Journey through the Decade starring Masahiro Inoue and Gackt has just been released.  For some reason, I can’t stop listening to this PV, I love this song!

*Special thanks to Ultimaknight for notifying us in DC about the PV.

Friday the 20th, another box waiting for my inspection after I got home from work.

Turns out it’s the 1st copy of Megami Super Deluxe and the Teana Lanster from Alter.  Teana really wasn’t on my buy list originally, but while I was placing my order for the 1st copy of Megami Super Deluxe, I thought about adding her to my collection (and to make the shipment from HLJ more worthwhile).

Out of the entire casting in Mahou Shoujo Lyrical StrikerS, my firm favorite has always been Fate, Nanoha 2nd and I don’t even have a fixed pose figurine of Nanoha yet, but would soon change because of the 1/4 Nanoha bikini version from Good Smile company.  I guess after visiting Superrat’s review on this version of Teana sort of swayed my decision a bit.  Teana is good looking (twintails is a turn on factor), Alter has consistently produced good quality figures and third, Teana is fairly likeable based on her performance in StrikerS.

And the 1st copy of Megami Super Deluxe

I will be looking to sell the extra copy of Megami Super Deluxe once the market depleted of the publication, hopefully to recoup the extra shipping cost.

Loot update March 17, 2009

March is a really busy month with various magazines, figures release etc.  I don’t think April would be like this, perhaps May would be crazy again.  Anyway, various boxes have arrived in the past few days and then we have an update.

Loot update March 17, 2009

Upper left we have G’s Megazine vol.4 2009, upper right Megami Super Deluxe, lower left we have painted resin of Subaru from Beat Blade Haruka, and Hatsune Miku from GSC in lower right.

I thought I was done with all the G’s Magazine goods for Moonlight Cradle earlier this month, it turns out I was wrong!  While searching for Megami Super Deluxe, I stumbled upon this and the focus is the give away Feena trading figure.  Yeah I know it’s usually low quality, but I vowed to not skip out on any G’s Magazine bonus goods for Feena ever again, so there it is.

Break open the bonus box and we have a tiny Feena that looks surprisingly good for give away.

dsc00476.jpgdsc00477.jpgdsc00478.jpg

Then we have Megami Super Deluxe featuring all the moe 2D girls from vol. 1 to 100 (special thanks for comrade Optic from http://thedisjointedzone.com/ to inform us about it on DC).  Due to some technical error, I am going to end up with 2 copies of Megami Super Deluxe ;x, I might look into selling one when the market depleted of them.

Next up we have the painted resin figure of the optional heroine Subaru from Beat Blade Haruka, a training ADV game released by Alicesoft released back in Feburary 2008.  Beat Blade Haruka is actually the 2nd game that utilize the Beat Angel System game mechanics (the first one being the popular Beat Angel Escalayer released in 2002)  in which the main character must recharge the heroine’s energy level by performing various sexual stimulations.  If the heroine were to lose against the monster in battle, her energy level would also be recharged, this time by the monster!  Since Subaru is the only one of the three heroines that didn’t have a PVC figure release, so I decided to pick her up.  She is actually rather popular among the fans, not sure why there isn’t a PVC made of her yet.   Anyway, when I saw her up as a Gathering kit from one of my main sources for prepainted resin, I picked her up immediately at E2046.com.    The unique point about this figure is that every pieces of her clothes are magnetically attached to her body!

And here is a teaser shot

dsc00461

Working on her photos shoot and background story right now, should be ready in a few days time!

And lastly, we have Hatsune Miku from Good Smile Company.  Now I don’t claim to be very knowledgeable on Miku’s background story.  All I really know is that she is originally a visual representation of a computer music program that synthesizes singing in Japanese.  Developed by Crypton Future Media, it utilizes Yamaha’s Vocaloid2 technology with specially recorded vocals of voice actors.

dsc00466

Still on their way to me is the Queen’s Blade Alice figure, I have no idea why it’s taking so long for her to get to me, must be the free shipping thing ;x (I’m still crossing my fingers to hope she would arrive free of damage),   my first Oppai mouse pad, and 1/7 Teana Lanster PVC from Alter.
